Discord had previously offered users access to embedded applications and a few games within the application months ago. Although only limited applications and games are currently available, it seems that this limitation will be lifted soon. Starting from March 18th, developers will be able to add embedded applications and games to Discord. Here are the details…
Developers can add Embedded Games and Apps to Discord
According to the official announcements made on the chat application’s blog page, Discord will allow developers to add new games and applications to the limited selection available in the Activities section starting from March 18th. With these enhancements, the platform aims to reach more people and enable developers to have a gaming and application community on Discord.
If you use Discord, you may have already seen the opportunity to play mini-games like YouTube, Gartic Phone, and Land-io, as well as watch videos with your friends through the Activities section. Starting from March 18th, developers will be able to add new embedded games and applications specific to their apps. Like before, these newly added games will open in an embedded window within Discord.
Discord stated, “Many Discord developers have been wondering when they will be able to develop their own applications, and they have been eyeing Activities. Starting from March 18th, Discord developers will be able to create new games and experiences that can be played directly on the platform using the Embedded Application Software Development Kit (SDK).” Discord aims to create a platform that offers a broader range of activities, where people can find friends and easily exchange information.
In addition, users will be able to add these applications to their accounts and move them to different servers, making the applications more popular. Furthermore, Discord announced that it could provide funding of up to $30,000 to developers with prototype application ideas. With these announcements, it is understood that the platform aims to enable everything to be done on the application, and it wants users to engage more actively with games and applications on Discord.
